Our Behaviour and Relationships Curriculum

At Great Bardfield Primary School, we want every child to feel safe, happy and ready to learn. We believe that positive behaviour grows from strong, trusting relationships and a clear sense of belonging. Our Behaviour and Relationships Curriculum focuses on teaching children the skills they need to manage their emotions, behave well and build positive relationships, rather than simply expecting compliance.

Our shared behaviour code — Be Ready, Be Respectful, Be Safe — helps children understand what is expected of them and how their behaviour affects others. Through our PSHE and RSHE curriculum, supported by the myHappymind programme, pupils learn about emotions, resilience, friendships and wellbeing in an age-appropriate way. These lessons, alongside clear routines and consistent expectations, help create a calm, positive and inclusive school environment.

Staff take part in regular professional development to ensure that behaviour is supported consistently and fairly across the school. Adults respond calmly and with care, using restorative approaches to help children reflect on their actions, repair relationships and learn from mistakes. By working closely with families, we support every child’s personal development, wellbeing and behaviour, helping them grow into confident, caring and responsible individuals.
